Here you can find the physical backgrounds of the acoustical properties of the alphorn. It is not easy to find them all, because this subject is in general not very mportant for university physicists and in most cases too difficult for musicologists. We need theory of frequencies of pipes and especially of truncated conical pipes. But hat is not enough. Also the bell and the mouthpiece of the alphorn have important effects on the acoustics.
In the next pdf we present the complete theory and moreover an experimental confirmation of the theory.
